Ex GWR Western Region

15 Ex-GWR 4wPM. Allocated to Bridgwater Docks prior to 1948 and withdrawn in February 1951, it arrived at Swindon Works on February 15th, 1951 and was scrapped in March.
23 Ex-GWR 4wPM. Allocated to Didcot Provender Stores prior 1948. Stored out of use at Swindon Works in the mid-1950s and withdrawn and cut up in July 1960.
24 Ex-GWR 4wPM. Allocated to Taunton Engineer’s Yard prior to 1940 but also used at Reading Signal Works when required. Stored out of use in 1959 and withdrawn and cut up in July 1960.
26 Ex-GWR 4wPM. Allocated to Didcot Provender Stores prior to 1948. Stored out of use at Swindon Works in the mid-1950s and withdrawn and cut up in July 1960.
27 Ex-GWR 4wPM. Allocated to Reading Signal Works prior to 1948 but also used at Taunton Engineer’s Yard when required. Stored out of use at Swindon in the mid-1950s and withdrawn and cut up in July 1960.

Ex SR Southern Region

49 Ex-SR 4wPM. Allocated to Broad Clyst Engineer’s Yard prior to 1948 and transferred to Yeovil Engineer’s Yard briefly during November and December 1948 before returning to Broad Clyst Yard. Withdrawn in September 1959 and sold to TW Ward at Briton Ferry for scrap.
343S SR 0-4-0 PM Shunter. Allocated to Eastleigh Carriage Works prior to 1940 and withdrawn in 1951. Cut up at Eastleigh Works in 1952.
346S SR 0-4-0 PM Shunter. Allocated to Exmouth Junction MPD and later Stewarts Lane MPD. Withdrawn 1954 and presumably cut up.
DS74 Ex-L&SWR Bo-Bo Electric. Allocated to Durnsford Road Power Station prior to 1946 and withdrawn in July 1965. Cut up at Cox and Danks, Park Royal.
DS75 Ex-L&SWR Bo-Bo Electric. Allocated to Waterloo (WC) prior to 1948 and withdrawn from service in May 1968 due to a serious electrical fire which rendered it uneconomic to repair. The loco was sent to Brighton where it remained in store until 1977 when it became part of the National Collection.
DS209 Secmafer 0-4-0 DH Shunter. On loan to BR for evaluation trials and utilised at Shalford Permanent Way Dept and Theale Permanent Way Depot between November 1966 and February 1967. It moved to the WR in July 1967 and returned to France in April 1960. Presumed cut up.
DS400 SR 0-4-0 DM Shunter. Allocated to Southampton Docks. Withdrawn in 1947 and presumably cut up.
DS499 SR 0-4-0 PM. Allocated to Lancing Carriage Works in 1935. Withdrawn March 1955 and cut up on site.
D5409 Class 420 0-4-0 DM. Allocated to Southampton Dock Engineer’s Yard prior to 1948 and withdrawn in 1957.
DS600 Class 420 0-4-0 DM. Allocated to RoF Thorp Arch until 1947, then Eastleigh Carriage Works until 1964 when it was withdrawn. Cut up at Bird’s, Long Marston in 1969.
DS1169 Class 04 0-6-0 DM Shunter. Purchased by BR in December 1948 and allocated to Folkestone Warren Engineer’s Yard. Transferred to Broad Clyst Engineer’s Yard in September 1959, re-allocated to Taunton Engineer’s Yard in 1964. Finally transferred to Yeovil Engineer's Yard in 1965 before being withdrawn in March 1972. It was removed to Cohen’s of Kettering for scrapping in June 1973.
DS1173 Class 04 0-6-0 DM Shunter. Purchased by BR in October 1948 and allocated to Hither Green Engineer's Yard. Transferred into Capital Stock as D2341 in March 1967 and withdrawn in December 1968. Cut up at Pollock & Brown, Southampton in 1969.

Ex LMS London Midland Region

1311G Ex-LNER 4wPM. Allocated to Gorton Works in 1927 and then to Wolverton Carriage Works. Withdrawn for preservation in 1978 at Midland Railway Centre.BEL1 Ex-MR 4wBE. Allocated to Poplar Docks prior to 1948 and withdrawn in September 1964. It was cut up at Poplar Docks by A. King, Norwich.
BEL2 Ex-MSR 4wBE. Allocated to Oakamoor Works prior to 1948 and withdrawn in June 1963. Stored at Uttoxeter MPD until moved to Crewe Works in December 1964 for preservation at Churnet Valley Rly.
ED1 Ex-LMS 0-4-0 DM. Allocated to Beeston Sleeper Depot prior to 19411 and briefly transferred to Poplar for the period between September 14th, 1951 and January 1952. It was then utilized on general engineering duties with no specific base until allocated to Castleton PW Depot in 1955. It returned to Beeston Sleeper Depot in 1960 and by January 1962 was stored OOU at Hellifield MPD. It was withdrawn in June 1962 and cut up at Derby Works.
ED2 Class 420 0-4-0DM. Built in February 1949 and based at Derby Works until moved to Thackley Tunnel (SE17503890) on the Leeds to Shipley line in October 1949. The loco was used to transfer materials between Apperley Bridge Station and the tunnel whilst reballasting work was being undertaken and was serviced by Holbeck MPD. From 1950 it was utilized for different periods at Ditton Creosote Works and Boston Sleeper Depot until withdrawal in June 1965. It was moved to Derby Works cut up in 1967.
ED3 Class 420 0-4-0 DM. Built in March 1949 and allocated to Lenton Engineers Yard. It was temporarily moved to Thackley Tunnel (SE17503890) on the Leeds to Shipley line in October 1949 and used to transfer materials between Apperley Bridge Station and the tunnel whilst reballasting work was being undertaken. It was serviced by Holbeck MPD. The loco was re-allocated to Bedford Engineer’s Yard in November 1964 but spent most of the time here in store in Bedford MPD. It was then transferred to Boston Sleeper Depot but returned after the Depot closed in 1965. It was withdrawn in September 1967 and despatched to G Cohen, Kettering for scrapping in December.
ED4 Class 420 0-4-0 DM. Built in line 1949 and allocated to Northampton Engineer's Yard. It was temporarily moved to Thackley Tunnel (SE17503890) on the Leeds to Shipley line in October 1949 and used to transfer materials between Apperley Bridge Station and the tunnel whilst reballasting work was being undertaken. It was serviced by Holbeck MPD. The loco was withdrawn in February 1964 and moved to Derby Works. Cut up by Cashmore’s, Great Bridge in 1967.
ED5 Class 420 0-4-0 DM. Built in July 1949 and temporarily moved to Thackley Tunnel (SE17503890) on the Leeds to Shipley line in October 1949 to transfer materials between Apperley Bridge Station and the tunnel whilst reballasting work was being undertaken. It was serviced by Holbeck MPD.  Subsequently it was used for different periods at Beeston Sleeper Depot and Castleton PW Depot until withdrawal in June 1965. It was moved to Derby Works and stored.  Cut up by Cashmore’s, Newport in 1967.
ED6 Class 420 0-4-0 DM. Built in July 1949 and temporarily moved to Thackley Tunnel (SE17503890) on the Leeds to Shipley line in October 1949 to transfer materials between Apperley Bridge Station and the tunnel whilst reballasting work was been undertaken. It was serviced by Holbeck MPD. It was subsequently utilised for different periods at Castleton PW Depot and Beeston Sleeper Depot until March 1966. The locomotive was moved to Holyhead Breakwater by road in April and remained in use until June 1967 when it was put into store. It was officially withdrawn in September 1967 and cut up at the Goods Depot at Valley by Mona Fuel & Trading Co. in December 1968.
ED7 Class 420 0-4-0 DM. Purchased in August 1955 and allocated to Fazakerley Engineer's Yard. Withdrawn in February 1964 and cut up at Derby Works.

LYR1 Simplex 4wPM. Allocated to Sandhills (Bank Hall) Depot in 1920 and various other locations until sold for industrial use in 1930. Preserved at Chasewater Railway Preservation Society.
LYR2 Simplex 4wPM. Allocated to Horwich Works in 1920 and then to Sandhills (Bank Hall) Depot. It was sold for industrial use in 1931 and cut up at Arnott Young, Parkgate in 1963.
LYR3 Simplex 4wPM. Allocated to Horwich Works in 1920 and then to Sandhills (Bank Hall) Depot. It was sold for industrial use in 1931 and cut up at Synthite Chemicals, Mold in1965.

Ex LNER EASTERN/NORTH EASTERN REGIONS

52 BR Class 04 0-6-0 Shunter.  Built 1950, given BR No.11104 in error and allocated to West Hartlepool Creosote Depot. It was re-numbered in May 1953 and, following the arrival of No.86 in April 1961, was transferred to York Engineer’s Yard. It remained there until early 1966 when it was moved by road to the SR depot at Woking Engineer’s Yard (Up Side). Due to access problems it was delivered to the Down Yard and when it was transferred across the running lines to the Up Yard part of the skirt surrounding the driving wheels fouled the electrified rail and caused considerable problems when the current had to be switched off. After the move to the Up Yard was completed it was then banned from any electrified rails. It was withdrawn in March 1967 following a shunting collision and moved to Cashmore's in Newport for cutting up.
56 BR 4wDM. Built 1955 and allocated to Hull Chalk Lane in March 1955. Re-allocated to Etherley Tip in 1963 and moved into store OOU at Thornaby Diesel Depot in April 1969, Withdrawn in May 1970 and cut up at TJ Thomson, Stockton-on-Tees in 1981.
81 BR Class 01 0-4-0 Shunter. Built 1956 and allocated to Peterborough Engineer's Yard. It was reportedly reallocated to Cambridge Engineer’s Yard but it was never seen there and it is assumed that this move was never affected. It was transferred into Capital Stock as BR D2956 in July 1967 and withdrawn in November of same year. Cut up at Duport Steel, Briton Ferry in 1969.
82 BR 4wDM. Built 1958 and allocated to Dinsdale Rail Welding Depot. Reallocated to Croft Store Yard and moved into store OOU at Thornaby Diesel Depot in April 1969. Withdrawn in May 1970 and cut up at TJ Thomson, Stockton-on-Tees in 1981.
83 BR 4wDM. Built1959 and allocated to Low Fell Engineer’s Yard. Withdrawn in May 1970. Cut up at W Heselwood, Attercliffe.
84 BR 4wDM. Built 1959 and allocated to York Concrete Depot. Out of use from April 1969 and withdrawn in May 1970. Cut up by Arnott Young, Parkgate.
85 BR 4wDM. Built 1959 and allocated to Hunslet East Engineer’s Yard. Re-allocated to Crofton PW Depot in October1960 and out of use from April 1969. Withdrawn in May 1970 and cut up by Arnott Young, Parkgate.  
86 BR 4wDM. Built April 1961 and allocated to West Hartlepool Creosote Depot.
Re-allocated to York Engineer’s Yard and then York Concrete Depot. Out of use from April 1969 withdrawn in May 1970 and cut up by Arnott Young, Parkgate.
87 BR 4wDM. Built 1961 and allocated to Geneva Yard. Moved into store 0OU at Thornaby Diesel Depot in April 1969. Withdrawn in May 1970 and cut up at TJ Thomson, Stockton-on-Tees in 1981.
88 BR Class 05 0-6-0 Shunter. Renumbered from D2612 and transferred into Departmental Stock in February 1961. Allocated to Faverdale Wagon Works and reallocated to Barassie Wagon Works in June 1962. It was used there until February 1964 when it was moved to Ayr MPD and deployed as a common user in their Capital Stock shunter fleet until September 25th 1967. It was withdrawn in December 1967 and cut up by Argosy Salvage Co., Shettleston in 1968.
89 BR Class 05 0-6-0 Shunter. Renumbered from D2615 and transferred into Departmental Stock in January 1964. Allocated to Dinsdale Rail Wedding Depot and returned into Capital Stock in November 1967 just prior to withdrawal in December of the same year. Cut up by CF Booth in 1968.
91 BR Class 03 0-6-0. Shunter Built in June 1958 and allocated to Lowestoft Engineers Yards. Reallocated to Cambridge Engineers Yard in October 1958 and transferred into Capital Stock in July 1967 as D2370/03370. Withdrawn in December 1982 and cut up at Doncaster works in 1983.
92 BR Class 03 0-6-0 Shunter. Built in July 1958 and allocated to Lowestoft Engineer's Yards. Reallocated to Cambridge Engineer's Yard in 1959 and transferred into Capital Stock in July 1967 as D2371/03371. It was withdrawn in December 1978 as 03371 and preserved at Rowden Mill Station.
100 Ex-NER Class EB1. Renumbered from BR No. 26510 and transferred into Departmental Stock as No.100 in January 1959. Allocated to Ilford Depot but stored at Goodmayes from November 1960 until withdrawal in April 1964. Cut up at Doncaster Works.
15097 LNER Class 14 Simplex Petrol Locomotive. Transferred to Departmental Stock in May 1949 and allocated to West Hartlepool Creosote Depot. Withdrawn in June 1950 and cut up at Darlington Works.

97201 Experiment Class 24 Bo-Bo. Renumbered from 24061 and transferred into Departmental Stock in December 1978 as TDB968007. Used as a Train Heating Unit until December 1978 and then re-allocated to RTC Derby and renumbered. Withdrawn for preservation at the Midland Railway Centre.
97650 Class 97/6 0-6-0 Shunter.  Built 1952 as PWM650 and initially allocated to Swindon Engineer's. It was withdrawn in 1987 and purchased for preservation at Lincolnshire Wolds Railway.
97651 Class 97/6 0-6-0 Shunter. Built 1959 as PWM651 and initially allocated to Radyr Engineer’s Yard. It was withdrawn and sent to the Northampton & Lamport Railway on November 10th, 1990.
97652 Class 97/6 0-6-0 Shunter. Built 1959 as PWM652 and initially allocated to Fairwater PAD Yard. It was withdrawn and scrapped in October 1991.
97653 Class 97/6 0-6-0 Shunter.  Built 1959 as PWM653 and initially allocated to Theale PAD Yard. Withdrawn in April 1991 and held at Reading Diesel Depot as a source of spares for 97654. Cut up at Laira TMD in 1990.

The superheater was removed, and it was used as a counter pressure locomotive for road testing of other engines. During this time, it was kept in the Repair Shop at Darlington North Road Works, and used frequently. In October 1946, it was renumbered 1699 and, after nationalisation in 1948, moved to the new Rugby Testing Plant before being scrapped in May 1951 at Crewe Works.

DS77 L&SWR Class C14 0-4-0T Allocated to Redbridge Sleeper Depot prior to 1948 and re-allocated to Southampton Town Quay from c1958 to February 1959. It was withdrawn in May 1959 and cut up at Eastleigh Works.
DS233 SR USA Class 0-6-0T. Renumbered from BR No.30061 and transferred to Departmental Stock in October 1962. Allocated to Redbridge Sleeper Works and withdrawn in March 1967. Cut up at Cashmore’s, Newport.

DS515 LB&SCR Class A1X 0-6-0T. Allocated to Lancing Carriage Works prior to 1948 as 515S. Renumbered as DS515 in February 1952 and returned to Capital Stock as BR No.32650 in August 1953. Preserved at Spa Valley Railway.
